Education and Childcare

Big White Community SchoolBig White Community School was established in 2005 by the community at Big White in conjunction with Big White Ski Resort and  School District 51. The school now falls within School District 51 of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and offers a Kindergarten (age 5) to Grade 9 (age 15) program. The school is located within the Happy Valley area of Big White and is accessed via Happy Valley Road. It can vary from 2-3 teachers plus support staff depending on enrollments year to year. The average number of students per year is 30-55, with active involvement from the community and parents.

The school offers a unique program that sees a four-day school week, allowing the children to take full advantage of the mountain facilities during the winter months. The physical education program offers weekly ski and snowboard lessons to students as well as numerous other outdoor activities.

For BC residents it is a regular public school; out of province or overseas students are made very welcome and fees do apply (see SD51 website for more information).

If you are interested in registering your child for the school please contact the current principal - or 250 491 5851 for the school office.
